Aqua Collaborates with the Sunscreen Film Festival for the Third Year

June 8, 2017

Sunscreen Film Festival 2017Aqua Marketing & Communications was named as the agency of record for the Annual Sunscreen Film Festival for the third year in a row, supporting creative strategy, advertising, media relations, and social content.

To promote the festival and illustrate its ties to the community, Aqua created the “Camera Head” campaign. The core concept of this campaign was to be innovative, creative and thought-provoking without going over-the-top and alienating the festival’s loyal audience. A retro photograph of a young couple on the beach, combined with the strange concept of the subjects having cameras for heads, creates a campaign that holds the attention of its audience while promoting the longest running mainstream film festival in Tampa Bay.

The internationally acclaimed festival has become increasingly popular within the film industry. This year’s festival was host to big-name stars, such as Dylan McDermott, actor and director, and Michael Mailer, producer and director. Events that focused on women in film featured panels with Jane Seymour, Daphne Zuniga, Selenis Leyva, among others. More than 65 of the 120 films were represented at the festival by its producers, crew, or cast; the 12th Annual Sunscreen Film Festival was definitely bigger than ever.

With increased interest from the industry, local residents have also taken note. Locally filmed “Albion: The Enchanted Stallion,” was so popular it garnered two sold-out showings. Opening night featured a red carpet over 100-feet long with 20 media outlets arranged by the agency to cover the exciting arrival of hundreds of guests and over a dozen celebrities.

SFF Red CarpetWith Aqua’s help, the festival earned more than 70 media placements locally and over 150 regionally, including the cover of Creative Loafing, which resulted in over 190 million media impressions and boosted attendance at the various festival events.

“We are proud to have been able to support the Sunscreen Film Festival again this year,” stated President and CEO of Aqua Marketing & Communications, Dave Di Maggio. “The festival always showcases the best in film, and also offers wonderful support for the arts and artists with workshops, panels, guest speakers, and expo. It is a great opportunity for the region to take part in the entertainment industry directly.”

The Sunscreen Film Festival is organized and presented by the St. Petersburg-Clearwater Film Society Inc., a not-for-profit 501 (c) (3) organization, screening top-notch films, providing educational workshops, parties and events in St. Petersburg, Clearwater and Tampa, Florida. Sunscreen Film Festival is unique from other film festivals in that it offers the opportunity for festival attendees to interact with industry guests at its events, workshops, panels, and screenings.
