Aqua BACVB Dallas Starts Event

Aqua Public Relations and Creative Teams Bring Bradenton Area Beaches and Awareness to Dallas

In early 2018, before the Dallas Stars took on the Pittsburgh Penguins at American Airlines Center, Aqua aided client The Bradenton Area Convention and Visitors Bureau in bringing its beaches to Dallas for a great cause. Together with the Stars, the BACVB hosted a large-scale Splash Event, trip giveaway and shoe drive benefitting Dallas LIFE, a nationally acclaimed homeless recovery program located right in Dallas.

Originally conceived by Aqua as a way to increase awareness of the Bradenton Area among target visitors in Dallas (with research indicating an increase in visitors from the destination), The Sun and Stars Giveaway event took place outside of the arena in Victory Plaza. Attending fans, as well as the general public, were invited to visit the Bradenton Area beaches and stop by a destination-branded booth to trade in their new or gently used shoes for a pair of flip flops – with all shoe donations going to Dallas LIFE. Those visiting the booth were also invited to enter to win one of three prizes:

  • Grand Prize: A three-night trip for two to the Bradenton Area courtesy of the destination’s newest luxury hotel, Waterline Resort, and including flights provided by the Dallas Stars
  • Second Prize: A Dallas Stars / Bradenton Area co-branded paddleboard and paddle signed by top Dallas Stars players
  • Third Prize: Six lower level tickets to a future Dallas Stars game vs. Boston Bruins

Aqua’s acclaimed Public Relations and Creative teams worked hand in hand for six months to not only design and bring to life the Bradenton Area beach-themed booth (and promo items including flip flops and paddleboard) but also spread the word about the destination and giveaway through media relations.

To ensure even greater results, the destination hosted a private suite in the arena to which Aqua PR representatives also invited top local media to discuss the destination one-on-one. The suite also served as a place for the Sarasota Bradenton International Airport’s (SRQ) Senior VP and Chief Operating Officer to secure valuable face-time with American Airlines Representatives, initiating discussions about new routes into SRQ.

Overall, the event resulted in unprecedented awareness among potential visitors in a top market of opportunity. As a direct result:

  • Personal relationships were established with six top media in the area – focusing on general travel and family travel – with two to three upcoming familiarization trips in the works.
  • Hundreds of top local media contacts were exposed to the destination, brand and giveaway
  • An immeasurable amount of awareness was generated among fans entering through the main entrance of the stadium (which seats 20,000)
  • Relationships with local community partners were established
